How to Use the Finder
Learn how to find five-letter words by exact pattern, starting letters, ending letters, included letters, and excluded letters.
1. Enter known letters
Put letters you know into their exact positions. Leave unknown positions blank. For example, A _ R _ E searches for words with A in position 1, R in position 3, and E in position 5.
2. Exclude letters
If a letter cannot appear anywhere in the word, add it to the exclusion box. This is especially useful after you have eliminated letters in a word puzzle.
3. Use search modes
Starts With and Ends With are useful when you know a prefix or suffix. Contains lets you require a sequence or set of letters without fixing every position.
4. Add advanced filters
The advanced area lets you specify required letters and fixed positions in a compact format. Combine these with the main pattern for more precise results.
A note about word lists
Different games maintain different accepted-word lists. This site is a general five-letter word finder rather than a guarantee that every result is accepted by every game.
